About Kari

BASI Certified Pilates Instructor

200-hr RYT, Cherry Blossom Yoga

Kari began taking Pilates classes in 2010, and completed her certification with Body Arts and Science International in 2011.  She has enhanced her practice and teaching with several continuing education programs over the years, including BASI Mentor and Master I & II Programs with Rael Isacowitz.  She is a student first and continues to grow as an instructor and practitioner.  In 2020, she completed her Yoga Teacher Training with Sara B. Turk of Cherry Blossom Yoga.  Rather than choose between the practices, she integrates Pilates and Yoga in sessions and classes to the benefit of the client.

What originally began as a means of relieving stress has become a career of helping people take control of their bodies.  Kari has enjoyed working with people of all shapes, sizes, and physical states.  From injury rehabilitation, to those trying to avoid a major surgery, Kari has used the power of movement and encouragement to help transform.

Whether you are recovering from an injury or surgery, or you simply want a new way to move, the mind-body awareness you gain will enhance your life in so many ways.  The muscles will strengthen, lengthen, and change the shape of the body.  The balance you create within the body will bring balance to the mind.  Gains in a Pilates or Yoga practice may spur you on in other areas of your life.

Certifications:  BASI Comprehensive Global Certification (2011), 200-hr Vinyasa Yoga with Sara B. Turk of Cherry Blossom Yoga (2020)

Additional education and workshops include: Kyphosis, Osteoporosis, and Low Back Pain with Karen Clippinger; Pilates Footwork with Alan Herdman; Pilates for the Overweight & De-conditioned Client; Pilates for the Mature Client; Enhancing Athletic Performance.

What is the difference between Pilates and Yoga?

Pilates

Pilates is a corrective discipline that focuses on core strength, balance in the body and mind, increased flexibility, and alignment. Pilates incorporates equipment and mat exercises, allowing for adaptability and support for all body types.

Yoga

Yoga is a practice of postures (known as asanas) to provide physical, mental, and at times, spiritual practice.  It is meditative at its core, and its many philosophies and styles provide versatility and variety.
